Environmental Overview
•EU Regulations on Waste Management have set standards
that all EU Governments must adopt.
•There are severe financial costs of not meeting these
targets.
•Many Municipals are currently in discussion with
Incineration and Energy from Waste (EfW) providers.
•Currently Incineration is generally regarded as the
only viable option available
•However the Cierra Total Recycling process is a tried
and tested alternative with many benefits that has
been used within the USA for the last decade.
•Social desirability for “green”environmental
solutions to waste management is very high and
communities are particularly vocal against
incineration
Market Overview (UK
and CI)
•30 million tonnes of municipal waste was
collected from households in the UK in 2004/05.
That's about 500 kg or half a tonne of household
waste per person!;
•2/3rds of this waste was sent to landfill;
•Household waste is a highly significant
proportion because of the large quantities of
organic waste which cause pollution problems;
•It is also estimated that approximately 150,000
tonnes of waste was generated within the
Channel Isles in 2006.
