Total Recycling Systems
The Process
The tumbling
action of the forces undersize food and earth particles
through the screen, where they are collected for composting.
Larger pieces consisting of paper, plastic, metal glass and
wood travel to the end of the machine. Continuously rolling
over the material bed, the trommel opens up the mass to
constantly expose the undersize materials to the screen
surface.
Second
step-Heavies removal, Manual separation.

are air conveyed to a separate pile, heavy inert waste
drops to floor from air stream. |
Third
Step
Size reduction Metal removal
Shredder
Grinders and Magnets
Paper plastic and
small pieces of wood are fed to the shredders.
After passing
through the initial shredder, material now goes through a
magnetic separator before reaching the grinder. It goes
through a second magnetic separator after grinding into the
small particles which permit the cleaning process to succeed.
Fourth
step - Hydrolyzing
Hydrolyzer
and Fluidizer.
As part of the
neutralization process for post consumer waste, Total
Recycling Systems has developed a rotary hydrolyzer
designed to dissolve and separate the clinging
organic food
residue from the cellulostics and plastic. This design
yields an important advantage for the composite extrusion
process by providing material not contaminated by random
food substances that have proven problematic for the
baseline extrusion process. The raw waste which has been
shredded is fed continuously into the hydrolyzer
where it uses extreme heat, steam and pressure to kill
bacteria and viruses while breaking down carbon bonds in
the material.
The sanitized material is then pumped into the Fluidizer
where it is dried. The residence times in both
the hydrolyzing and fluidizing units is approximately 25
minutes.
The mixture is
now sanitizes and consists of a mixture which is 60% paper
and 40% plastic which is an odorless, brown fluffy
material. It is now blended in large
batches with high quality recycled plastic equivalent to
10% of the total weight. samples are taken and quality
control; of the batch is performed.
Sixth Step Processing into Composite
Parts.
The blend is conveyed
into specially built extruders with special dies made to handle
the waste derived composite formula. Parts are manufactured that
have the quality of composite wood manufactured from far more
expensive materials. Many different shapes can be manufactured
ranging from 1X4 planks to railroad ties.
